Chestnut Lipizzaners
There's no such thing, right? Wrong. They are found only in some parts of Europe, and most people say they have died out. In Romania, there is even a stud farm that breeds exclusively chestnut Lipizzaners. (Visit the Lipizzan Connection's website for more information. Look at where they give the breed history). In my search, I found only three mares with a pedigree and known mare line: one is Siglavy Capriola XVI-6. I know she is chestnut because I have seen a photo. Another is Pluto XIX-60. I know she is chestnut for the same reason as the following stallion; the same goes to Maestoso XXXIX-21-3, the 3rd mare. I also found a stallion named Siglavy C XVII-37 . I know he is chestnut because in the studbook it says his colour is roib, and that is Romanian for chestnut. You may find Lipizzaners owned by me with a red gene in them. This is not unrealistic. It means they descend from the above horses. I don't know when Siglavy Capriola XVI-6 was born, but she was fully mature in the photo, taken in 1993 (or was that her date of birth?), and she had a foal born in 2001. (Lipizzaners do live a long time: I think using her for Borina's dam is safe). Sorry about all these short sentences! I've been adding horse into the paragraph one at a time, so it doesn't flow anymore.
